2016 Row by Row Experience in Lancaster County
In 2015 I traveled to quilt shops all over Western Pennsylvania over two days.  My journey started about 3 weeks after the rowing started so I was behind from the beginning.   I think I collected around 20 rows.  I was overly motivated since I couldn't participate the previous year.  Yes I did manage to make a quilt but most of the rows are sitting in a UFO bin.  In the end, I was just happy to finish a row quilt even if I was too late to turn in at a quilt shop for a reward.  This year I lucked out.  The rowing started June 21 and I was scheduled to work a week long track meet at Millersville University in central Pennsylvania.  What could be better than being in the heart of Amish country to collect rows!  We left a few days early for the meet and I happily rowed from shop to shop, stopping at a few craft breweries along the way.  The brewery visits was my husbands plan for the extra days, although he did enjoy our road trip.  He even bought an Amish broom at one of the quilt shops.  We spent our evenings in a couple of local B&B's, The Historic Smithton Inn and Kitchen Kettle Village.  If you are ever in the area, I recommend both although we liked the Historic Smithton Inn the best.  The scenery on the trip was amazing!  I grew up in Pennsylvania and I always loved the countryside.  I think most people think the state is one big city after another but that can't be further from reality.

In preparing for my trip, I used the shop map on the Row by Row Experience website and also did some google searches.  The google search turned up a blog from 2015 with a trip itinerary and description of all of the shops.  This year I visited just enough shops to make the quilt, so no UFO's for this year.
In Stitches - Wolmelsdorf PA; Family Farm Quilts - Ronks PA; Family Farm Fabrics - East Earl PA; Zooks Fabrics - Intercourse PA; Old Country Store - Intercourse PA; Log Cabin Quilt Shop - Bird in Hand PA; Weavers Dry Goods - Litiz PA and The Quilt Shop at Millers - Ronks PA.   There was also a stop at Brubakers in New Holland and Obie's Country Store in Goodville.  Brubaker has an amazing collection of batiks and I couldn't leave without going to Obie's, just to say I was there.  Obie's is stacked floor to ceiling with fabric, quilts, placemats and anything fabric.  Definitely worth a look if you are in the area.

I was able to turn in my finished quilt at Zooks Fabrics, the first to do so and my reward was 25 fat quarters and the compliments were a boost to my ego.

Serger Bag
One of my goals for 2016 was to make the most of my Babylock Ovation Serger and all of the feet that came with it.  I found the perfect project that fit the bill, Creative Tote by Deb Canham Studios.  Deb is currently doing a sew-a-long Creative Tote Tutorial in a Yahoo Group for Babylock Sergers.  I am in love with decorative threads, they are soooo much fun!!!!

The design of the bag just begs for loud fabrics.  As you can see, I found the perfect fabrics for the project.  I am currently planning another bag, this one will be displaying Pittsburgh Steeler fabrics.  Stay tuned for photos of the new bag.

Been awhile since I posted on my blog.  There are too many other options out there to post pictures of my creations, Facebook and Instagram for instance.

One of my latest project (among many) is a yearlong sew along, The Splendid Sampler with Pat Sloan and Jane Davidson.  Each week we receive a pattern for 2 blocks, Sunday & Thursday, along with some bonus blocks and projects along the way.  Each block is 6 x 6 finished, 6 ½ x 6 ½ unfinished.  Blocks vary with piecing, applique, hand embroidery and paper piecing.  I don't do much hand embroidery anymore so my skills are rusty and so are my hands.  It's not as easy as it used to be.  The paper piecing is a learning experience and I am liking it and the applique is a breeze with my Babylock Destiny.

Check it out by clicking on the link above.  Below are photos of the project thru Block 33 and several bonus blocks.  Now that I am caught up I will try to post each block as it's completed.

Mission Accomplished

Well, the "caterpillar" nap roll/play mat is done.  I altered a bit from the original with the blanket not being attached to the bolster roll with velcro, no pom-pom trim for caterpillar legs and replaced the ribbon ties with elastic straps for the purpose of safety.  When I went looking for supplies to make the face, I lucked out in finding the felt buttons, hearts and flowers.  They worked perfectly and are safer for a toddler than buttons.

The quilt pattern for the blanket is "Zig Zag Love" which I found on the Craftsy website.  The original size was 25" x 21 1/2".  Not sure of the exact size mine wound up but I adjusted it to fit my purposes.

I will be making another (not right away) for my other granddaughter.  That one will be a ruffled quilt, another design that just screams "caterpillar".
